What is DNS Attacks

computing cloud

Dns attacks are cyberattacks that use the Domain Name System (DNS), to cause issues with networks. Hackers who are looking to steal data from customers or spread malware will often use it to target websites and business organizations.

A DNS attack is a powerful way to bypass firewalls, other security tools and download malware. It is therefore vital to monitor all network traffic and protect DNS servers.

What is DNS Attacks?

DNS attacks are attempts to crash or disrupt a DNS server. This will prevent the server from responding to legitimate requests. There are a variety of DNS attacks, and there are a few ways to protect against them.

Denial-of-Service attacks are the most common DNS attacks. They make it difficult for users to connect to a service or website. This type attacks is often performed by botnets that send massive DNS requests towards a specific IP address. They overload the server, preventing it to respond to normal traffic.

One type of DNS attacks involves changing the IP of the targeted device, making it impossible for any other devices on the network to connect. This type of attack can be carried out by a hacker with MAC-level access to the network.

The attacker sends a large number of DNS queries to the targeted server. However, these queries are not for valid domain names. In reality, these queries refer to non-existent domains. This makes the DNS servers spend a lot of resources searching for these non-existent subdomains.

The third type of DNS attacks involves sending massive amounts of synchronize messages (SYNs) to the target faster than they can respond. This results in a lot of half-open connections, which eventually overloads the server and causes it to crash.

These attacks can be carried out by a variety of methods, including sending bursts of SYN and ACK messages to the targeted server, or spoofing a udp port 53 in order to poison its cache and redirect DNS clients to rogue sites. The udp-port 53 attack can be particularly dangerous, as it only requires an attacker to spoof the 16-bit ID of a transaction to poison the DNS cache.

An attack on DNS can be extremely expensive. In the IDC 2020 Global DNS Threat Report the financial services industry was cited as most vulnerable to DNS attack.

Apart from stealing data, this threat can cause reputational damage, loss of customers, and downtimes for cloud services. In most cases, these attacks cannot be reversed, so it is important to prevent them at all cost.

DNS attacks are not limited to the obvious threat of data theft. They can also be used as a tool to disrupt millions of services and cause widespread network outages. These attacks are more likely to occur when a target's DNS infrastructure is not properly protected.

FAQ

What is a static site?

A static website is where all content is stored on a server and accessed by visitors via web browsers.

The term "static", refers to the absence or modification of images, video, animations, and so forth.

This type of website was originally created for use in corporate intranets. It has since been adopted both by individuals and small companies who are looking for simple websites that do not require any programming.

Because they are easier to maintain, static sites have been growing in popularity. Static sites are easier to maintain and update than fully-featured websites with multiple components (such as blogs).

They load much faster than dynamic counterparts. This makes them perfect for users who are using mobile devices or have slow Internet access.

Also, static websites are more secure that dynamic counterparts. You can't hack into a static site. Hackers have limited access to data within a database.

There are two main methods to create static websites:

  1. Using a Content Management System (CMS)
  2. Create a static HTML website

Which one you choose depends on your requirements. A CMS is my recommendation if your first website was created.

Why? Because it gives you complete control over your website. A CMS eliminates the need for a professional to set up your site. All you need to do is upload files to the web server.

Still, you can learn to code and create static websites. However, you will need to put in some time to learn how to program.

RWD is intended to ensure that any user viewing a site views the exact version on their screen.

You would, for example, want to make sure that a customer can view your website even on a mobile device.

A responsive website will adapt its layout to suit the device it is being viewed on. A website that is viewed on your laptop will display the same way as a desktop website. It will look different if you view the page from your phone.

This allows you create a website that looks great on any device.

Can I build my website using HTML & CSS?

You can build websites yourself without paying for professional designers.

If you're willing to put in the time and effort, you can learn how to make a great-looking site yourself using free tools like Dreamweaver and Photoshop.

You might also consider outsourcing your project to an experienced freelance web developer who charges by the hour instead of per-project.

How To

What is website hosting?

Website hosting refers to where people go when they visit a website. There are two types.

  • Shared Hosting - This is your cheapest option. Your website files are stored on a server that is owned by another person. Your customers' requests travel via the Internet to your server when they visit your site. The request is sent to the server's owner who then passes it on to you.
  • Dedicated hosting - This is the most expensive option. Your website is only accessible from one server. There are no other websites sharing space on the server. Your traffic remains private.

Most businesses choose shared hosting because it's less expensive than dedicated hosting. Shared hosting allows you to have your website run by the company who owns the server.

Both options have their pros and cons. Here are the differences:

The pros of shared hosting:

  1. Lower Cost
  2. Easy To Set Up
  3. Frequent Updates
  4. It is available on many Web Hosting Companies

Shared hosting can often cost as little as $10/month. But keep in mind that this price usually includes bandwidth. Bandwidth describes the amount of data that can be transferred over the Internet. Even if you are only uploading photos to your blog site, high data transfer rates can still cost you extra.

You'll soon discover why you paid so much more for your previous host when you get started. Many shared hosts offer very little customer support. While they may occasionally assist you in setting up your site and other tasks, after that you are all on your own.

Providers that offer 24-hour customer support are worth looking into. They will assist you with any problems that may arise while you're sleeping.

Hosting dedicated:

  1. More Expensive
  2. Less is More
  3. Requires specific skills

You're getting everything you need with dedicated hosting to operate your website. You won't worry about how much bandwidth you are using or how much RAM (random Access Memory) you have.

This means that upfront, you'll need to spend a bit more. You'll soon realize that your business is self-sufficient once it's online. You'll be able to manage your servers effectively.

So Which Is Better For My Business?

It all depends on the type of website you are creating. Shared hosting might be best if you just want to sell products. It's simple to set it up and keep it updated. You'll probably receive frequent updates because you are sharing a server hosting many other sites.

However, dedicated web hosting is the best way to build a community around you brand. Instead of worrying about your traffic, you can build your brand while still being able to concentrate on your business.

Bluehost.com has both. They offer unlimited monthly data transfers, 24/7 support, free domain name registration, and a 30-day money-back guarantee.
